Job Description

Part-Time Elementary After School Assistant Teacher Far + Wise provides academic support and experiential education for students from early elementary through high school and beyond, and by removing financial and other barriers, ensures that all students can achieve their life, education, and career goals. We provide long-term, year-around academic, social-emotional and enrichment programming for students from early elementary school through high school and post-secondary education. Far + Wise is seeking a Part-Time After School Assistant Teacher to support our elementary programs that provide academic support and enrichment programming to students from local elementary schools.
Position Title:
Part-Time Elementary After School Assistant Teacher Immediate Supervisor:
Director of Education and Impact and Lead Teacher Position Summary:
Assist Director of Education and Impact in planning, organizing, and delivering part-time, year-round academic and enrichment program for elementary students. Support Lead Teacher in designing and facilitating classroom activities. Develop meaningful relationships and provide individualized support for students that supports their academic, social-emotional development. Support Lead Teacher to facilitate, manage and implement program activities. Mentor, teach and support students. Serve as a positive role model for students. Attend occasional parent engagement activities and student home visits (these often occur in the evenings and/or on weekends). Help to maintain records related to student performance and activities. Perform clerical functions on site, to support the program coordination, administration, record keeping. Participate in staff training sessions and other required professional development activities.
Requirements:
Experience in, and passion for, working with children. Strong interpersonal & organizational skills, collaborative, team-player. Belief in the whole-child approach to education and associated systems for student success. Cultural understanding and competence. Strong literacy and numeracy skills. Flexibility. Preferred skills (not required): Spanish language experience/education (not required). Interested in early childhood education. Previous experience as an assistant teacher or paraprofessional. Compensation & Terms Part-time, salary; compensation TBD (based upon skills, experience). Five sick days Paid holidays aligned with the BCSD calendar (with the exception of summer work as a part of summer programming - typically 40 hours a week for 5-6 weeks).
