Program Assistant (Part-time) The Children's Museum of the Magic Valley (CMMV) is an emerging children's museum in South Central Idaho. As we work toward building a permanent space, we operate as a "Museum Without Walls," bringing hands-on, mobile exhibits directly to schools and community events across all eight counties of the Magic Valley through our CMMV On the Go! program.

Overview of Position:

The Program Assistant reports to the Program Coordinator and plays a key role in delivering CMMV's mobile, hands-on learning experiences. This position is responsible for transporting, setting up, and facilitating mobile exhibits for Family STEAM Nights and other community events as needed. The Assistant drives the CMMV box truck or cargo van to event locations within a 80-mile radius of Twin Falls. Event setup typically begins one hour prior to start time and includes unloading exhibits and activity materials, organizing stations, and ensuring each area is ready for participants. In addition, at Family STEAM Nights, the Assistant trains school-provided volunteers (often teachers) to lead each exhibit, provides guidance as needed, answers questions throughout the event, administers parent surveys, tracks attendance numbers, takes pictures, and gathers stories. As the materials are clearly labeled, the Assistant ensures efficient setup and smooth operation. They also communicate directly with school administrators and site contacts to support a well-coordinated and successful experience. Following events, the Assistant communicates with the Program Coordinator about supply needs and impact stories.

Responsibilities:

Drive the 17' box CMMV truck or cargo van up to 80 miles each way to/from events Unload/load mobile exhibits Set up/help clean up exhibit activities Train volunteers about the various STEAM activities Ask parents to fill out a parent survey on iPads during the event Ensure events run smoothly and adapt to the needs of each event location

Qualifications & Experience:

The Program Assistant must show a demonstrated commitment to CMMV's mission and the philosophy of play-based, experiential learning. Experience in an informal educational environment focused on young children with a strong commitment to hands-on learning and child-directed play Available for up to four midweek evening events per month during the academic school year, and occasional Saturday events. Summertime schedule varies with mostly daytime hours and limited evening events Ability to communicate and work effectively with children, families, administrators and educators from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds Ability to work independently with minimal administrative oversight and support Professional demeanor Detail oriented and highly organized High degree of initiative and independent judgment

Hours & Compensation:

Average 4 hours per event, up to 6 hours if location is farther away, i.e. Gooding Up to 2 events per week (usually Tues.-Thur. evenings) Hours are dependent on location and event time but generally range from 3:00-9:00pm No events during holiday breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas & Spring Break) Employer willing to be flexible if there is a weekday that will never work due to prior commitments
