Our programs combine fitness, recreation, academic support, and enrichment activities to promote children's physical, social, emotional, and academic development. Position Overview The Program Assistant supports the Site Director with the daily operation of our before-and after-school program. This is an active, hands-on childcare position that includes supervising groups of children, leading scheduled activities, assisting with homework, supporting positive behavior, and maintaining a safe and organized program environment. Program Assistants work as part of a team but must also be comfortable managing assigned groups and completing responsibilities independently when needed. The ideal candidate is energetic, patient, dependable, and passionate about working with children. Key Responsibilities Actively supervise and engage with children during all indoor and outdoor activities. Maintain awareness of each child's location and ensure their safety and well-being at all times. Assist with planning and leading games, crafts, fitness activities, enrichment projects, homework time, and other scheduled programming. Follow the daily schedule and activity plans provided by Ivy League Kids. Take attendance and accurately follow student arrival, dismissal, and authorized-pickup procedures. Provide homework assistance and academic support. Use positive behavior-management strategies and model respect, safety, integrity, and caring. Communicate professionally with the Site Director, coworkers, parents, guardians, and school personnel. Set up, organize, and clean program spaces each day. Follow all Ivy League Kids policies regarding health, safety, confidentiality, and emergency procedures. Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional-development opportunities. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare program, camp, coaching, or recreational setting is preferred. Ability to confidently and compassionately supervise groups of children. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification within the required timeframe. Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and employment training. Skills and Attributes Energetic and enthusiastic about working with children. Patient, empathetic, and able to respond positively to challenging behavior. Creative and resourceful when leading activities. Reliable, punctual, and able to consistently work assigned shifts. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations. Work Schedule Monday through
Friday:
Before school: Typically 6:15-8:00 a.m.
After school:
Typically 2pm-6:00 p.m. Candidates may work before school, after school, or both shifts depending on availability and site needs. Exact schedules and hours vary by school location and dismissal time.
