Offer physical assistance and classroom support for students with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety and engagement during activities. Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate effective interactions with students who have communication challenges. Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators—to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs). Manage classroom behavior through positive reinforcement techniques, maintaining a supportive learning environment. Assist with lesson planning, early childhood education activities, toddler care, preschool routines, and Montessori-based approaches to foster childhood development. Requirements Prior experience working with children or in classroom support roles within special education settings. Knowledge of Deaf education and experience working with individuals who use American Sign Language (ASL). Familiarity with behavior management strategies for students with disabilities and behavioral disorders. Understanding of childhood development principles, early childhood education practices, and classroom management techniques. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals to support student success. Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable. Strong communication skills paired with excellent writing abilities for documentation and report writing related to IEPs and progress notes. Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism at all times.
