About Parkland Preparatory Academy:
Parkland Preparatory Academy, one of Chicago's most innovative and dynamic therapeutic day schools, is seeking Special Education Paraprofessionals with their professional educator license in Plainfield/Lake in the Hills/Bartlett . With students ranging from age 5 to 21, Parkland employees have an opportunity to experience a multi-faceted and unique teaching environment with the support and freedom to innovate. Our goal is to meet students where they are, and help them make the gains necessary to reintegrate into a less restrictive environment.Requirements/Qualifications:
- Only have a high school diploma
- Paraprofessional License
- Professional Educator License
- Paraprofessional/Substitute minimally
- Strong behavior management skills
- Ability to collaborate with other professionals in a fast paced environment
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of teacher-led plans or re-teach concepts students need reviewed.
- Ability to accommodate students according to their individual needs as prescribed within their IEP and by the classroom teacher.
- Apply effective behavior management techniques/programs.
- Engage students through a variety of teaching strategies and with different materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with Parkland students, supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, supporting agencies, and a variety of external agencies.
Job Description:
- Paraprofessionals help classroom teachers prepare and carry out instructional opportunities for students to access state learning standards, achieve IEP goals, BIP goals and transition goals.
- Must be able to collaborate with several team members (Teacher, Counselor, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Pathologist, Behavior Intervention Staff and Principal) throughout the course of the school day and take direction from the classroom teacher
- Paraprofessional may accompany students to related services and be asked to practice facilitating specific exercises with the student while in the classroom (sensory breaks, fine/gross motor activities, speech and language exercises, etc)
- Must accept direction, re-direction, remain flexible, adhere to policies, procedures and carry out assignments.
- Must demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain classroom or individual student data collection. Benefits
