Job Description
Position Summary We're seeking an experienced Quality Assurance / Quality Control Inspector with a focus on welds and tolerances--from incoming material and in-process fabrication through final inspection and shipment. You'll be the single point of accountability for quality in our shop, verifying that every part meets blueprint specifications, dimensional tolerances, and welding standards before it goes out the door. About Direct Dimension LLC Direct Dimension LLC is a welding and fabrication shop producing engineered parts for the transportation industry. We're a tight-knit team of about 20 people who take pride in precision work and parts our customers can count on. This is a hands-on role with real ownership — you'll be our dedicated quality authority on the floor. What You'll Do Inspect parts throughout the manufacturing process — incoming, in-process, and final — to ensure they conform to specifications Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD files to verify dimensions, tolerances, and requirements Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to confirm parts meet design intent Perform dimensional inspections using precision hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, weld gauges) Conduct visual weld inspection and coordinate/support nondestructive testing (NDT) as needed Verify welds and fabricated assemblies against AWS welding standards Identify non-conforming parts, document findings, and drive them to resolution Maintain accurate, organized inspection records and quality logs — both digital and physical Use computer software (CAD viewers, inspection/documentation tools, spreadsheets) to record, track, and report quality data Partner with the production team to catch issues early and continuously improve quality What You Bring 2 - 4 years of experience in a quality assurance / quality control role, ideally in welding, fabrication, machining, or a similar manufacturing environment Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings — this is essential to the role Experience working with CAD drawings and software (AutoCAD or SolidWorks) Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Comfort with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques Strong computer skills — able to document and log inspections accurately and use the appropriate software for the role Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable, with the judgment to stop and flag a part that isn't right An engineering or technical background, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience Must be authorized to work in the United States Preferred (a Plus, Not Required) CWI — Certified Welding Inspector (AWS) Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) Familiarity with NDT methods (dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic) Experience helping build or formalize quality processes and documentation Physical Requirements & Work Environment Steel-toe boots and safety glasses (PPE) required on the shop floor Able to stand and walk for extended periods Able to lift up to 50 lbs Work is performed in an active welding and fabrication shop environment Schedule Full-time, Monday-Friday, day shift On-site at our Lake in the Hills, IL facility Compensation & Benefits $40,000-$65,000 per year, based on experience Overtime pay and performance / safety bonus opportunities Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and paid holidays To Apply If you take pride in getting the details right and want to own quality at a growing fabrication shop, we'd like to hear from you.
