Position Title:

Paraprofessional This job description describes in general terms the normal duties that the paraprofessional will be expected to perform. The job or duties as described, however, may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the job. Paraprofessionals work under the overall supervision of the building principal and Director of Student Services with direct supervision provided by special education teachers. Paraprofessionals are employed, when required, to implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students. Paraprofessional duties will vary depending upon the age of the students served as well as the nature and severity of the students' disabilities. Supports Academic Development of Students

• Supports academic programs as designed by special and general education teachers, including leading small groups, providing one-to-one follow-up for instruction/review.
• Keeps students on task.
• Provides support to enhance student success (e.g. taking notes in class, reading materials aloud, proctoring tests, enlarging instructional materials, audio-taping books).
• Creates and implements adaptations to tests, assignments, and research projects.
• Implements technology.
• Assists with homework, as directed by teachers.
• Assists teachers with clerical work, material development, and errands. Supports Functional Skill Development of Students
• Assists with mobility and transitions during the day, including community trips.
• Supports activities of daily living.
• Assists with bathroom breaks, lunch, and recess.
• Assists with adaptive equipment (can include pencil grips, flexible seating, charts, timers, vests, sensory tools, etc.)
• Assists with students' individual medical and health needs when appropriate.
• Implements exercise programs and breaks Serves as a Communication Link
• Provide feedback to the special education teachers about general education class activities, assignments, student participation, and behavior.
• Provides explanations to general education teachers about student programs and adaptations, as needed.
• Shares information with families, as delegated by the teacher.
• Provides general school and program support.
• Assists classmates when the student with special needs does not need support as directed by the teacher.
• Intervenes with other students about inappropriate behavior, language, and actions as directed by the teacher. Standards and Quality Assurance
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Hold one of the following licenses through the Illinois State Board of Education a valid Illinois teaching license (Professional Educator License), or a valid Illinois substitute teaching license (Professional Educator License with Stipulations), or a valid Illinois paraprofessional license (Educator License with Stipulations- PARA) Have demonstrated the ability to work effectively under the direction of others• Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others• Have the willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance• Attend staff and team meetings• Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety• All other duties assigned at the discretion of the administration.
