Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Job Type:

Pay:
$20.00-$23.00 per hour. Based on experience and credentials Position Summary We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to support our early childhood classroom. The Assistant Teacher works with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. The position includes classroom support, child supervision and care, educational activities, family communication, classroom organization, and compliance with school and DCFS requirements. Key Responsibilities Provide daily care, supervision, and educational support for children. Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson planning, classroom activities, and daily routines. Support children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Assist children with age-appropriate personal needs, including toileting/potty learning, meals, dressing, and self-care. Provide additional or remedial support to children who need extra assistance. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom. Clean and disinfect classrooms, bathrooms, and assigned areas. Maintain accurate attendance and classroom records. Communicate professionally with children, families, teachers, and administration. Participate in parent conferences, IEP meetings, staff meetings, child-development meetings, and other meetings as assigned. Assist with lunch coverage, drop-off, dismissal, and other daily school routines. Plan and supervise classroom, outdoor, and field-trip activities as assigned. Respond appropriately to classroom emergencies and minor accidents. Monitor classroom supplies and assist with ordering materials when needed. Attend school events, professional development, seminars, and required training. Follow school policies, procedures, DCFS licensing requirements, and administrative direction. Perform other duties as assigned to support the classroom and school. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years old. Previous experience working with young children is preferred. Must demonstrate patience, compassion, dependability, and a genuine interest in working with children. Strong verbal, written, listening, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team. Ability to adapt to changing classroom needs and assignments. CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain. Must be a Gateways member . Must complete required DCFS and school training, including applicable:

Mandated Reporter Health, Safety & Child Development Food Handler Certification Must be willing to obtain the medical form/examination required by DCFS . Must be willing to complete fingerprinting and required background checks . Must provide three (3) professional or personal reference letters . Must be willing to become fluent in Cued Speech within six months of hire . Training will be provided. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of an active early childhood classroom. Preferred Qualifications CDA (Child Development Associate) certification 60 or more college credit hours in Early Childhood Education or a related field Previous early childhood education experience Previous Montessori experience Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on classroom position. The employee must be able to: Stand and move for approximately 95% of the workday . Lift and carry up to 40 pounds as needed. Bend, stoop, kneel, sit on the floor, and work at children's eye level. Walk, run, jump, dance, and participate in other age-appropriate activities with children. Push and pull classroom materials and equipment as needed. Work indoors and outdoors. Respond quickly and appropriately to children's changing needs. Maintain the stamina necessary to work the assigned schedule.
