Duties Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and early childhood education. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively. Support behavior management strategies by implementing behavior plans and behavioral disorders support techniques to promote positive classroom behavior. Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate effective interactions with students who have communication challenges. Help with physical assistance for special education students, including mobility support and classroom support in special education settings. Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors—to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs). Assist in lesson planning and curriculum development tailored to diverse learning needs, including Montessori or preschool methodologies when applicable. Maintain confidentiality of student information and handle sensitive data responsibly in accordance with privacy laws like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Experience Prior classroom experience supporting children in early childhood or preschool settings is highly preferred. Experience working with students with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders and behavioral disorders, is essential. Knowledge of childhood development principles and basic math skills to support foundational learning activities. Familiarity with special education practices such as IEP implementation, behavior management techniques, and classroom support strategies. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children of various ages, including toddlers and preschoolers. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals. Experience working in private or public school environments that emphasize inclusive education models like Montessori or early childhood programs is a plus.
