Summary:
The bus paraprofessional assists the bus driver in observing and maintaining the health and safety of students during transportation.
Qualifications/Education:
High School diploma or equivalent Good verbal and written communication skills Must be neat, responsible, and dependable Be sensitive to the needs of students and able to relate well to students and staff
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Essential Functions:
Assist in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district Assist bus drivers in supervising students Maintain effective student discipline Ensure students board and depart the bus orderly Assist young or disabled students in boarding and departing the bus Care for the needs of disabled students Assist bus drivers and classroom teachers in resolving problems with students Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous and timely manner Perform such other duties as assigned from time to time
General Responsibilities:
Display fairness and impartiality to all students Display consistent ability to positively motivate student Display punctuality and dependability Interact in a professional manner with all staff Communicate with students clearly, accurately, and consistently Carry out instruction related to methods or techniques to be used with students Display good judgement in a decision making situation Perform other duties as assigned by the transportation director
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires prolonged standing and/or sitting Requires stooping, bending, lifting, and reaching Must work in noisy and crowded environments depending on outside variables with numerous interruptions Requires regular attendance and physical presence at the job sites
Terms of Employment:
The paraprofessional is assigned to work as assigned by supervisor while school is in session and students are present. Any other work days will need to receive prior approval from administrator.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy concerning evaluation of classified personnel.
