Seasonal Education Assistant - Zoo

The Seasonal Education Assistant performs the full range of activities required to facilitate revenue-based zoo education programs, program animal handling and occasional animal husbandry assistance. In addition, all staff is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy, clean, and attractive Zoo environment and providing courteous assistance to participants and guests. This employee should possess excellent education/interpretive skills, guest relations, organizational, and communication skills. A Day in the

Life:

Under the direction of the Education and Volunteer Coordinator, develop, design, and implement creative, interactive, and age-appropriate educational activities for zoo campers between the age of 4-14, prepare program-specific learning-related materials. Ensure a fun, educational and safe environment for children. Conduct engaging and age-appropriate zoo tours, animal encounters, art & craft projects, and other activities. Safely handle and present wild/exotic animals. Setting up and storing program supplies. Assigning duties to and coordinating teen volunteers. Facilitate early camper check-in and afternoon check-out, including with camper´s parents when appropriate. Follow guidelines as outlined for medical situations, behavior problems and other camper situations. Respond to guest questions and educate guests about the care and handling of animals. Other duties as assigned. What you'll need for success:

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Some college credit or a degree in education, biology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

1 year experience as an educator, program facilitator, camp counselor or similar related work experience required.

LICENSE:

A valid Driver's License is required. Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
