48 college hours, OR high school diploma and successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA)

Building Principal and Classroom Teacher
Performance Responsibilities:
Under the guidance and supervision of a teacher, effectively implement learning strategies, prompting procedures and other systematic instructional procedures in school and non-school settings. Assist teachers and other professionals with adapting learning materials and equipment to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning styles or language backgrounds. Implement teacher developed plans or strategies to enhance the fluency, maintenance and generalization of academic skills. Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional materials; setting up student work areas; and operating office video, computer, adaptive devices and other materials. Implement teacher-developed behavior plans and techniques that adhere to the laws, regulations and procedural safeguards concerning the management of student behaviors. Assist teachers and other professionals in modifying the learning environment to manage behavior. Assists the teacher in record keeping and monitoring student progress. Supervise students with disabilities in academic and non-academic settings as directed by the teacher or principal. Assist students in physical tasks such as putting on and taking off of outer wear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and getting on and off the bus. Assist with personal hygiene needs of physically disabled students which may require lifting of students. Frequently lift 30 to 50 pounds. Frequently walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, and crawl. Model and encourage respect and value for individual differences. Implement strategies to promote the student's independence across all educational settings. Based on program, student needs, and health needs of students, administering health services that may include carrying out tube feeding, catheterization, lifting children from wheelchairs, administering medications, and other health related procedures required by students who have special health care needs and maintain appropriate records of these activities. Participate in safe physical management and verbal de-escalation professional development on an annual basis. Supervise lunch, library, and/or playground activities of students as directed. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff. Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures. Maintain appropriate professional appearance. Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Supervising Teacher, Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
