Job Description

Make a positive impact in lower teacher-to-pupil ratio classrooms supporting students with complex communication needs and challenging behaviors. This full-time contract opportunity places you in a dynamic educational environment in the New Orleans area, working directly with students who may have Autism or related disabilities. Your experience, specialized skills, and dedication will be invaluable in helping these students achieve their fullest potential.
Key Qualifications:
Must have one of the following: an Associates Degree, a ParaPro assessment score of at least 450, or 48 semester credit hours (per district requirements) Prior classroom experience with special needs students required Ability to read and interpret IEPs confidently Preferred, but not required: CPI training, de-escalation experience, knowledge of significant behaviors, CPR Certification Must be comfortable working with students exhibiting aggressive or challenging behaviors All candidates must successfully complete a drug test, fingerprinting, and additional background checks as part of time-sensitive credentialing requirements
Role Responsibilities:
Support instruction in classrooms with low student-to-staff ratios Assist students who communicate in varied ways, including nonverbal communication Implement and document strategies from IEPs Partner with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure a safe, inclusive environment Employ de-escalation techniques and behavior intervention plans when necessary Effectively manage documentation, daily activities, and adapting supports as needed
