Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM-2:00 PM Reports to: Preschool Director Position Summary Cape Symphony Preschool is seeking a warm, dependable, and collaborative Preschool Assistant Teacher to support our arts-infused and academically inspired preschool program for children ages 2.9 to 5 years . This is a team-teaching position working closely with the classroom lead teacher and other professional preschool staff. The Assistant Teacher helps create a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can learn, explore, create, and grow. General Responsibilities Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the classroom program and child assessment, in collaboration with the lead and co-teachers, to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of individual children. Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision by sight and sound , effective classroom arrangement, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of emergency drills and procedures. Follow Massachusetts child-care licensing requirements and Cape Symphony Preschool policies and procedures. Ensure that daily routines are carried out in a prompt, hygienic, consistent, and developmentally appropriate manner. Create and maintain a tidy, welcoming, and inviting classroom environment where children feel comfortable and secure and families feel welcome and reassured. Provide positive guidance and responsive caregiving, responding appropriately to children's individual needs. Participate in experiences that promote physical development, creative expression, language development, social-emotional growth, and positive relationships. Support the integration of music, dance, visual arts, and other creative experiences into the preschool curriculum. Participate fully in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities. Attend meetings as requested. Share relevant information and ideas gained through professional reading, training, and other learning opportunities. Be an ambassador for Cape Symphony Preschool and Cape Symphony in the wider Cape Cod community. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the preschool program Qualifications Previous experience working in early childhood education or a child-related field preferred. Current pediatric CPR and First Aid certification , or willingness to obtain certification as required. Ability to pass required background checks and obtain clearance to work with young children. Knowledge of and commitment to developmentally appropriate practices for young children. Warm, supportive, and respectful approach to children and families. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the classroom and program. Willingness to accept supervision and feedback in order to improve professional performance. Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development. Physical Requirements The Assistant Teacher must be able to: Sit on the floor and stand for extended periods of time. Move around the classroom quickly as needed to support children's safety and supervision. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds to chest height . Perform the physical activities necessary to support young children throughout the school day.
