The InstructionalAssistant-Moderate (IA) plays a vital role in supporting students with moderate academic, social, and behavioral needs within a specialized classroom setting. Under the supervision of a special educator, the IA provides targeted, individualized, and small-group support to enhance student learning, engagement, and independence. The IA implements evidence-based instructional, social, and behavioral strategies to reinforce skill development, assist with classroom management, and foster positive social interactions. Additionally, under the supervision of the special educator, the IA may support the educational team to adapt materials, modify instruction, and provide evidence based interventions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and behavior support plans (BSPs) under the guidance of special educators and related service providers. Assists in delivering academic instruction by reinforcing lessons, adapting materials, and guiding students through classroom activities. Promotes student engagement by providing encouragement, modeling appropriate behavior, and fostering self-regulation strategies. Assists students in developing self-management skills, including conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and emotional regulation. Supports students with toileting, hygiene, and other functional living skills as needed. Supports students with adaptive behavior skills, such as organization, transitions, and independent work habits. Collects and records data on student progress, behavior, and intervention effectiveness to support instructional decision-making. Collaborates with teachers, specialists, and other team members to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Participates in team consults, professional development, and ongoing training to stay informed of best practices. Supports learners in the general education setting while implementing individualized strategies outlined in a students IEP. Maintains a safe and structured classroom environment that supports student success and well-being. Maintain confidentiality and follow all school and district policies related to student records and privacy. Performs other related duties as assigned.Skills:
Ability to foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation and growth. Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and supportive approach in a variety of classroom situations. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with students, educators, and families. Ability to implement strategies that support academic, behavioral, and social development. Strong problem-solving skills to adapt interventions and classroom supports as needed. Understanding of rapport-building techniques and supportive language to establish trust and engagement with students.Physical Demands:
