- The Special Education Assistant will work closely with one or a few special needs students on a regular basis in order to provide them with the academic, social, emotional and behavioral support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).
Responsibilities include:
- Work under the direction of the supervising Special Educator to implement IEP services
- Help collect and/or prepare materials to support learning for target students. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction
- Provide reinforcement to students in academic areas as directed by supervisor
- Implement behavior plans as directed by supervisor
- Collect data as directed by supervisor
- Help plan scheduling for meeting the needs of students.
- Communicate regularly with teachers as to students needs and progress
- Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school
- Treat all information about the school, teachers, children and their families as strictly confidential
- Participate in on-going staff development
