Job Description
Council on Aging - Program Assistant-Supportive Day Care Program Performs supportive social service work in the daily operations of the Council on Aging supportive day care program, including leading activities and assisting participants with program activities, and all other related work as required. Essential Functions Assists with participant arrival and departure by greeting each participant by name, interacting with caregivers and/or family members, assisting participants with removing and storing personal items, guiding participants to proper area, and engaging participants with discussion. Interacts with various transportation personnel as required. Assists with various supportive day program tasks including snack preparation, attendance, lunch count, morning discussion set-up, lunch set-up, program seating arrangements, fitness equipment distribution, activity clean-up, preparation for activities, cleaning kitchen area, tidying up program areas, organizing supplies, and other tasks as directed by supportive day program Director or Assistant Director. Provides direct supervision and assistance for participants including mobility support and guidance during transitions; helping and engaging during morning activities, lunch hour, and afternoon activities; assisting with prompting for use of bathroom; conversing with participants; and other activities as directed by the supportive day program Director or Assistant Director. Interacts with participants by orienting to time, place, person; assisting in morning and afternoon scheduled activities which may include word games, guests, indoor games, etc.; occasional individual activities with specific participants as required. Monitors participants' behaviors and alert supportive day program Director to wandering, increased anxiety, agitation, confusion, complaints of pain or illness, etc. Maintains a compassionate, person-centered approach to caring for program participants with neurocognitive impairments or other disabilities. Attends staff meetings and other Orleans Senior Center activities as required. Performs similar or related work to support other departmental programs as required, or as situation dictates. Education and Experience High school diploma; experience working in human services preferred; experience working with older adults desired.
Pay:
