Immediately Job Description The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District seeks skilled Special Education Paraprofessionals to join our team. The paraprofessional will work in a special education classroom offering 1:1 academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support to a child with disabilities. Experience and training with young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders is preferred.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be able to: implement behavior plans, assist with academic instruction as supported by the special education teacher, facilitate appropriate social interactions
OR:
General Ed Paraprofessionals assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of all children in the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District. Paraprofessionals will work with school staff to create an educational environment that meets the needs of all students by providing instructional assistance and classroom support by implementing effective classroom strategies. Paraprofessionals, both General Ed and Special Ed in the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District have a substantial benefit package including competitive wages and Professional Development opportunities.
Responsibilities:
1. Supports direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings 2. Assist with classroom activities. 3. Supervise students and the completion of instructional materials. 4. Manage individual and classroom behavior. 5. Supervise students on field trip activities. 6. Perform other support services and related duties as requested by the Building Principal. Examples of support services and educational settings served by paraprofessionals may include life skills, developmental classrooms, social, emotional, & behavioral support (SEBS), LINKS (Autism) program, visual or mobility orientation, language learning delays, and medical care.

Additional duties may need to be performed as part of the job requirement in favor of student success. Be sure to review the Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure that you clearly understand the conditions of your employment as a paraprofessional.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED, and Associate of Arts or Science Degree or higher, or 60 undergraduate college credits, or Meeting or exceeding the State mandated score on the Paraprofessional Assessment
Preferred Qualifications:
BA Degree with Educator Licensure Experience working with students in various education settings including but not limited to: initiative steam lab / in-school suspension 1. Provides overall support to the classroom teacher(s) and student(s), based on the needs of the classroom and the students' Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable; 2. Assists classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) in preparing lessons and related materials; 3. Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles, child development, skills/knowledge acquisition rates of the student(s) to whom assigned, to assist student learning. 4. Observes and records academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress; 5. Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly; 6. Provides support in crisis situations using district-approved safety/restraint protocol when a student becomes a harm to him/herself or others as necessary; 7. Other duties as assigned and required
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work involves student interaction including 1:1 student interaction, and is performed primarily in a classroom setting. Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and stooping to assist students, may be necessary.
