Job Description

The YMCA is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support high-quality learning experiences in our Education, Training & E-Learning programs. In this role, you will assist lead teachers with classroom management, lesson delivery, and individual student support while helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities include preparing materials, supervising activities, supporting social-emotional development, and maintaining positive family communication. Join a mission-driven, collaborative team and gain valuable experience in youth development, education, and nonprofit community service. Responsibilities Assist lead teachers in implementing daily lesson plans and educational activities that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Actively supervise children to ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment at all times, following YMCA and state licensing guidelines. Support positive behavior management using developmentally appropriate, strengths-based strategies aligned with YMCA values. Prepare, organize, and clean classroom and program materials, ensuring learning spaces are tidy, welcoming, and well-maintained. Engage children in individual and group activities, encouraging participation, cooperation, and respect among peers. Communicate respectfully and professionally with families, providing basic information about daily activities and referring detailed concerns to lead staff as needed. Maintain accurate attendance, sign-in/out, and basic documentation or incident reports as required by YMCA policies and state regulations. Collaborate with teachers and staff to adapt activities to meet diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including proper handwashing, sanitation of materials, and supervision during snacks or meals. Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development to support continuous improvement and uphold the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
