Educational Assistant

Summary:

The Education Assistant provides direct support to students in the educational setting, implementing teacher-directed instruction across educational, behavioral, vocational, daily living, and leisure activities. Students supported may have intensive needs, including behavioral challenges. The Education Assistant plays a critical role in helping students reach their full potential and reports directly to the classroom teacher and the Educational Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Report to work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties throughout the scheduled shift. Provide 1:1 support to students as directed by the classroom teacher and as outlined in student-specific plans. Assist with behavior interventions and other therapeutic programs as necessary. Accurately collect student-specific data, including BTF data, in a timely manner. Assist with toileting, feeding, and transportation as needed. Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness, including preparing materials and arranging furniture for the next day's activities. Follow instructional lead in various areas of the school (e.g., pool, vocational sites) as appropriate. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating Benedictine core values and adhering to the Code of Conduct and PBISS strategies. Cooperate with administration and external agencies during inspections or investigations. Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings, staffings, and in-service sessions. Attend mandatory trainings and maintain all job-specific certifications and licenses. Follow student plans with complete fidelity. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or passing the ParaPro test preferred. Experience working with youth with developmental disabilities preferred. Must be a minimum of 21 years old. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and provide proof of eligibility. Must pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background checks (CJIS), and CPS clearance. If the role requires driving, must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that allows coverage under Benedictine insurance. Physical Requirements:

Must be able to implement physical interventions as outlined in Safety Care. Must be physically able to support student-specific behavior strategies and programs. Ability to lift or push 50-100 lbs. Frequent walking or standing for extended periods. Functional range of motion in legs, arms, hands, and fingers. Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
