Assistant Teaching Professor, Communications & Writing Position Type Faculty Faculty Track Non Tenure Employment Status Full Time Months 9 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in Communications and Writing. The SAH offers major programs in Art and Design Media, Communications and Media Arts, History, English, and Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities. The anticipated start date for this position is August 10, 2026. The teaching load may include courses in professional and technical writing; introductory and advanced interpersonal communications; first-year writing; and the University's First-Year Seminar. Joining a dedicated and interdisciplinary team, the successful candidate will bring an established record of academic and professional experience to the classroom and contribute to UNE's longstanding commitment to multimodal and digital writing, including initiatives in ePortfolio integration, digital humanities, and emerging technologies such as generative AI. Responsibilities The school seeks candidates to teach courses in communications, professional and technical writing, and first-year writing as an introduction to academic discourse. These courses will contribute meaningfully to the major and minor in Communications and Media Arts, the writing concentration in the English major, the Writing minor, and the Nor'easter Core Curriculum. The expected teaching load is 12 credits (4 courses) per semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment and service to the school, college, and university. Qualifications A terminal degree in communications, writing, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. A master's degree is required. Graduate coursework and/or professional development in writing instruction and undergraduate undergraduate teaching experience are also required.
