Job Description

Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of middle school students as a dedicated ASL paraprofessional! This rewarding contract position centers on supporting students in Ypsilanti who are Deaf or hard of hearing, offering both the opportunity to build relationships and to foster growth in the classroom. The assignment runs full-time through June 2027.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Fluent in American Sign Language High school diploma required; must provide a transcript (high school or college) if selected Previous experience in a school setting as a paraprofessional or similar support role Compassion, patience, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, student-centered environment Willingness to work closely with educators, students, and families to support individual needs
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and small group support to middle school students utilizing ASL Assist with instructional activities, adapting lesson content and materials as needed Encourage student participation and foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers Reinforce learning strategies and facilitate communication between students and staff Maintain confidentiality and observe professional boundaries at all times This role offers you the chance to make a rewarding impact on students' educational journeys while working in a positive and inclusive school setting.
