Hamtramck, MI; Onsite - School Setting Position Summary A Center-Based Special Education Paraprofessional assists certified teachers in providing intensive academic, behavioral, and personal care support to students with disabilities in a dedicated or specialized classroom. They play a critical role in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), de-escalating crises, and promoting student independence. Shift:
Shift details: School Day Schedule Hours per week: 35 hours per week Contract length: School Year Key Duties Assist teacher in performing all his/her clerical responsibilities, preparation of materials, etc. Maintain accurate records on all children assigned to the program. Assist teacher in carrying out the instructional program. Assist students in attending to their personal needs. Assist teacher in home program implementation. Competency and experience working with special needs students Competency and experience working with students with behavioral challenges Exhibit flexibility and patience when dealing with staff and students. Exhibit ability to work independently within guidelines established by the teacher and administration. Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to students and program. Demonstrate warmth, concern, care, and enthusiasm, as well as a genuine interest in students. May apply Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques with students. Assist with students' arrival and dismissal times Maintain regular, predictable in-person attendance. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable, daily transportation. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, waist high (lifting rest required) Carry out all other responsibilities that may be assigned by the teacher. Requirements Education Associate's degree or WorkKeys or ETS ParaPro Assessment with the minimum Michigan passing score or higher.
Licenses & Certifications Experience:
Previous experience working with special needs children is required. Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos. Good verbal, math, and grammar skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs daily Ability to interact with staff and the public is required. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to work as a team member at all times Ability to perform all duties with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
