Job Description

General Education Assistant 6 hours per day Company Overview Hillsdale Community Schools is a dedicated public school district serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Committed to fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments, the district emphasizes personalized education and developmental growth for all students. Overview We are seeking a passionate and energetic Paraprofessional to join our team and support classroom teachers in delivering high-quality education. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with children of diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, and other special education requirements. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for teaching, strong communication skills, and a commitment to creating engaging learning experiences that promote growth and success. Duties Assist classroom teachers with lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementing instructional activities across subjects such as literacy, math, and early childhood education. Support students with disabilities by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting lessons to meet their unique needs. Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods to facilitate effective interaction with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Manage classroom behavior through positive behavior management techniques, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all children. Provide one-on-one support to students with autism or developmental disabilities, fostering social skills and independence. Assist with classroom organization, including preparing materials, supervising activities, and maintaining a clean learning space. Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to monitor student progress and contribute to curriculum adjustments that support individual growth. Qualifications Prior experience working with children in early childhood education, preschool settings, or special education environments is highly preferred. Knowledge of childhood development principles, classroom management strategies, and behavior management techniques. Familiarity with teaching methods such as Montessori or other preschool curricula is a plus. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn is desirable. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students, teachers, and families. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in deaf education is advantageous. Ability to adapt quickly to diverse student needs while maintaining a positive attitude. Certification or training related to childcare, literacy education, or math instruction is beneficial but not required. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners!
