Elementary Teacher Assistant

The Elementary Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students. While the classroom follows Montessori-inspired principles, Montessori certification is not required. The Assistant Teacher plays a key role in guiding students' independence, supporting academic and social growth, and maintaining a calm, orderly classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and lessons Support students individually and in small groups with academic work Help maintain a prepared, organized, and inviting classroom environment Encourage student independence, responsibility, and respectful behavior Observe student progress and share insights with the Lead Teacher Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times Assist with classroom materials preparation and organization Help manage classroom behavior using positive guidance techniques Support classroom routines and ensure consistency throughout the day Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, and families

Qualifications:

High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred Experience working with children ages [6-10 or specify grade range] preferred Interest in child-centered and hands-on learning approaches Strong communication and interpersonal skills Patience, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset Ability to follow direction and take initiative when appropriate Preferred (but Not Required): Familiarity with Montessori philosophy or willingness to learn Previous classroom or childcare experience CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
