Lake Superior Academy is hiring a full time Elementary Paraprofessional. Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. Our vision is to help each student develop a happy heart, an eagerness to learn and a strong foundation for success. We employ instructional methods that foster creativity, exploration, and strong problem-solving skills while also ensuring accountability for student progress.
Job Summary :
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist teachers in providing support to students, helping to create a positive and productive learning environment. This role is essential in fostering academic growth and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities :
Essential Duties:
Assist teachers with the preparation and implementation of instructional materials, resources, and classroom activities. Provide instructional assistance under the supervision of the classroom Teacher. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various subjects. Support students with special needs and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) under the direction of the classroom Teacher. Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment. Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and other educational staff. Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., recess, lunch). Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress and needs. Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information. Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional plans. Support student assessment Regular and predictable attendance
Cognitive Demands:
Supervise multiple students at once Provide instructional assistance to students in an individual or small group setting Ability to maintain a safe and orderly environment for students Participate in continuous professional development Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds Stand and walk frequently Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year Assist/lift students if necessary Withstand a moderate noise level
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred. Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. All LSA applicants need to be reliable, trustworthy and ready to join a team of positive, problem solvers. Teachers passionately prepare lesson plans focused on the social, physical, intellectual and emotional development of their students. Each teacher is expected to create a nurturing community within their classrooms where their students feel safe, respected and challenged.
