Clarkston Community Schools Overview Clarkston High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraeducator to work under the supervision of a certified teacher or school administrator, along with support from school social workers and counselors. The Paraeducator will assist in providing support for students experiencing social and emotional distress in the school break room, by ensuring they follow the structured break process. They also assist with implementing behavior management plans when needed. Paraeducators in this role foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for students, and communicate their needs for additional support to the students' counselors or social workers, as well as office staff who can document their absences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Break Room Student Support and Management Assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and 504 plans, including collecting data on student progress toward goals.
Support students with behavioral, emotional, or physical needs, consistently applying behavior intervention and de-escalation strategies to support recovery and ability to resume schedule. Promote student independence, self-advocacy, and social skill development. Communication and Collaboration Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information and school matters. Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, administrators, and other school staff regarding student progress and needs following protocols. Participate in-service training, and professional development opportunities as required. Assist the staff in maintaining organized student records and documentation. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must meet state/district requirements for paraeducator employment (e.g., passing a standardized test or completing a minimum number of college credits). Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and adolescents. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively under the direction of a classroom teacher or school social worker. Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting. Preferred Associate's degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field. Prior experience working with students in a school or educational setting, especially those with special needs. Training or certification in CPR and First Aid. Knowledge of principles of child development and behavior management techniques.

Ability to remain patient and calm when working with students who may be experiencing difficulties.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Flexibility:
Ability to adapt to changing classroom needs and student schedules.
Confidentiality:
Strict adherence to ethical standards and student privacy laws (FERPA).
Teamwork:
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse staff members. Physical Requirements and Work Environment The work environment is typical of a school setting. The role requires the ability to: Stand, walk, sit, and lift up to [weight up to 40 pounds] as required to assist students. Bend, stoop, and kneel to interact with students at their level. Engage in behavior management or de-escalation techniques when necessary, following prescribed training. Schedule and Compensation Monday
