ESP JOB SUMMARY
: Assists the classroom and special education teacher, under the direction of a licensed teacher, by working directly and indirectly with students with disabilities to maximize their success. Supports students' academic, social-emotional, and physical development. Provides direct student support that aligns with students' individual education plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: % of Time 80% Direct Student Support Works directly with students, individually or in small groups, on academic, behavioral, physical, and social-emotional skills. Assists with implementing students' individual education plan (IEP) goals/objectives. Assists with implementing positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS). Assists with responses to student behavior in accordance with District policies and procedures. Collaborates and communicates with teachers to support instruction and IEP goals/objectives. Supervises students in individual, small group, and large groups settings. May provide assistance and support to students in accomplishing activities of daily living; including, but not limited to: eating, toileting, grooming, dressing, bathing, transferring, mobility and positioning. 15% Classroom Support Provide assistance and support in adapting curriculum to the instructional needs of each student. Assist in creating and maintaining a positive learning environment. Promotes inclusion and social interaction among all students. Assist in collecting data related to students' individual education plans. 5% Professional Development and Support Attends meetings and training as assigned which may include CPI and/or Ukeru training. May provide support for other ESP positions. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Education/Certification/Licensure Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent. Complete Personal Care Assistance Training prior to working with students. Ability to pass Paraeducator Assessment (may be substituted with completion of two years of college/AA degree or three years of experience as ESP with completion of required professional development).
Experience:
Previous experience in school/students preferred. Essential Skills Required to Perform the

Ability to relate to students and staff and maintain a positive learning and working environment. Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Intermediate internet knowledge. Intermediate reading and writing skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rate, ratio and percent. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Organizational and time management skills including the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software Required:
Operates office equipment including computer, phone system, laminator, copier, scanner and calculator. Operates assistive technology and other equipment.
Supervision of Other Employees:
This position does not provide supervision or work direction to any other District employees. The position may assist in training others. Ability and willingness to cross train and cover other ESP positions.
Physical Job Requirements:
Position involves extended periods of time on feet. Position involves occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Position involves listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity.
Mental Job Requirements:
Position involves attention to detail. Position requires adapting to new and evolving technologies. Position includes handling multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions. Position involves flexibility and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks, sometimes from more than one person. Position includes varying workload. Position includes working in a team environment.
Working Conditions:
Normal school conditions. Potential exposure to body fluids and airborne pathogens. Exposure to noise from students including potential behavioral disturbances. Potential exposure to outdoor elements as part of student supervision.

Provides for small-group instruction, in conjunction with teacher-prepared lesson plans. Administers make-up tests and lessons to students. Supports individualized student instructional and behavioral plans. Assist students with use of computers and other technology. Supervises students in individual, small group, and large groups settings including lunch, recess, passing time, before/after school. Assists with responses to student behavior. 15% Classroom Support Collaborates and communicates with classroom teacher to support instruction. Reviews lesson plans assists with preparation of instructional tools and materials. Assist in creating and maintaining a positive learning environment. Promotes inclusion and social interaction among all students. Assist in collecting data related to individual student education and/or behavior plans. 5% Professional Development and Support Attends meetings and training as assigned. May provide support for other ESP positions. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
