Job Description
Student Health & Educational Assistant STEP Academy is a K-12 charter school located in St. Paul and Burnsville, Minnesota that serves a student body primarily made up of first-generation Somali/East African students. As a destination school, STEP Academy ensures all students are nurtured and empowered to use their personal attributes and acquired knowledge to have the choice to participate in early college entry through the Minnesota PSEO program. STEP Academy is dedicated to the growth and development of our entire learning community: students, staff, parents, and administrators.
The Position:
Due to program growth, STEP Academy is hiring a full-time Student Health & Educational Assistant to provide one-on-one support to a Kindergarten student. Responsibilities include supporting classroom learning, daily routines, and the student's health and safety needs. The position will include assisting with scheduled insulin administration and carbohydrate counting in accordance with the student's health plan and required training.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with Kindergarten or elementary-age students preferred
- Experience working with students with health or medical needs is a plus
- Ability to support classroom learning and daily activities
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, staff, and parents
- Responsible work and attendance ethic
- Caring, patient, dependable, and attentive to detail
- Cultural competence
