A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.
Ensure a safe, clean, and secure learning environment for all students, including the playground area. May involve working with children with special needs. Provide developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive experiences for children, either individually or in groups. Support staff in implementing health-related activities, such as toileting, diapering, maintaining safety in the classroom, promoting dental hygiene, and encouraging healthy nutrition. Maintain records and paperwork in a confidential manner. Greets families upon arrival.
General Responsibilities:
Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult/child interactions. Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members. Maintain professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff. Participate in Child Care training when requested. Appropriate work attire is required. Ensures confidentiality of financial records, HIPPA and all records for employees, children and families. Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems. Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers. Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community. Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Qualifications:
No Driver's License Required. High School diploma or GED is required. CDA or degree in Early Childhood related field is preferred. Experience in supervision of children is preferred. Knowledge of computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required. Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required. Attention to detail and accuracy is required. Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved. Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation's Personnel Policies. Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
