PARAPROFESSIONAL/AIDE
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent Completion/Willingness to Complete Substitute Training OR 60 College Credit Hours
SUPERVISES
REPORTS TO:
Special Education Director Building administrator Classroom teacher
JOB GOALS
1. To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order for students to learn effectively. 2, To effectively apply the skills unique to the position.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES
lmplement the policies of the Board of Education. Communicate appropriately with supervisors, other employees, students, and visitors. Maintain a friendly and helpful environment. Maintain an acceptable standard of personal appearance. Facilitate/support the regular classroom teacher. Maintain confidentiality. Attend all meetings and participate in all conferences with regard to job responsibilities, evaluation, and other appropriate areas. Participate in daily and long range lesson and classroom activity planning. Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students. Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other students. Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students. Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary. Help maintain individual records for each child as necessary. Refer questions regarding the student's progress to the classroom teacher. Assist the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas. Instruct students under the direct supervision of the regular classroom teacher. Maintain any records as needed by any governmental education agency. Refer discipline matters to the classroom teacher or the building administrator. Assume responsibility for tasks other than those listed which may be assigned by a supervisor.
