School Year Pay Rate:
$20-$22 per hour We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Paraprofessional / Teacher's Assistant to provide classroom support in a self-contained elementary classroom. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with Autism and/or experience managing behaviors in a clinical or educational setting. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students, building positive relationships, and helping children develop the skills they need to succeed in the classroom. Position Responsibilities Provide daily support to students in a self-contained elementary classroom. Assist the classroom teacher with instructional, behavioral, and classroom-management needs. Support students with Autism and other developmental or behavioral needs. Implement positive behavior strategies, including redirection, prompting, and de-escalation techniques. Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. Provide occasional toileting and personal-care support as needed. Assist students with classroom routines, transitions, activities, and social interactions. Monitor student behavior and communicate observations and concerns to the classroom teacher and appropriate staff. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other school personnel. Maintain professionalism, patience, confidentiality, and a student-centered approach. Qualifications Education/Experience — applicants should meet one of the following: Associate's degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Science, or a related field; or At least 5 years of experience managing behaviors in a clinical or educational setting.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
Experience working with elementary-aged children. Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Knowledge of behavior-management and redirection strategies. Experience with special education or self-contained classroom environments. Ability to provide toileting/personal-care assistance when required. Strong communication, teamwork, patience, and reliability. Ability to remain calm and effective when responding to challenging behaviors. Schedule Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-3:00 PM Includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch Compensation $20-$22 per hour, based on education, experience, and qualifications. Location Position is located in the western North Carolina / Cherokee County area, with convenient proximity for candidates in surrounding communities, including Bryson City, Sylva, Andrews, Murphy, and Franklin.
