Do you enjoy community building? Cary's Community Recreation team is seeking energetic and creative individuals at least 18 years of age to join our team as a Program Assistant II! As a Community Recreation Program Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting with the execution and organization of our programs, events, and rentals. The ideal candidate has a love for providing outstanding customer service, is an enthusiastic professional, able to build relationships with various guests and enjoys special event management. This position will support community and family engagement programs such as Family Nights or Parent's Night Out/Parent's Morning Out. You will also be responsible for supporting some offsite programming at our community centers and locations such as our National Training Complex, Mills Park, WakeMed Soccer Park or our Senior Center! In order to support programs and events, this position requires a flexible schedule to work varying hours. Evening and weekend availability is required and some daytime hours and holidays as needed. This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Typical Tasks Opens, sets up, and closes off-site program locations Provides support and supervision of programming and community engagement events Understanding programming processes and procedures to be able to troubleshoot unexpected situations that may arise Assists with event preparation and day of support Maintain inventory of supplies and report equipment needs or repairs Enforces Town of Cary policies Complete incident reports and maintain accurate Provide excellent customer service to participants, instructors, and community members. Performs other job-related tasks as required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with patrons, vendors, team members, and the public. Ability to work independently Ability to create a welcoming, enjoyable atmosphere for diverse groups Strong customer service skills Ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department Knowledge of basic office equipment and computer software Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: Some experience with in-person customer service and/or guest interactions Some experience assisting with special events or programs Some experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work in this class requires an employee to be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with public. An employee must be able to walk unassisted and move about freely. Requires the ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 25 lbs. )such as chairs, 6-foot tables, rolling bleachers, and event supplies. Visual acuity is needed in order to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
