Well establish Wayne County Charter School is seeking a Bilingual Instructional Assistant for our lower elementary grade levels.
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the principal and working closely with teacher(s) in respective grade level, provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students. The work is directed by specific instructions given by the teacher(s) in respective grade level. The work is performed under limited supervision of the teacher(s) and/or principal. This role will also be responsible for assisting the front office with paperwork, phones and general office duties.
Essential Functions:
Offers academic assistants to students on a classroom, small group of individual level based on need. Assists the front office staff with general clerical duties. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning. Assists with the monitoring of work assigned by teacher to students.. Checks, corrects and scores student work at instruction of teacher. Praises and reinforces achievements and reports student progress to teacher. Prepares instructional materials at the directive of the teacher: makes copies, prepares folders, arranges classroom furnishings, equipment, visual aides. Distributes and collects instructional materials for daily lessons. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards. Serves as proctor during testing. Serves as substitute teacher or other support staff when/if necessary. Reports student discipline problems to teacher or principal. Encourages student self-esteem, citizenship, social skills, respect for others and conflict resolution.
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Executive Director.

- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.

- Skill necessary to operate basic office equipment, including audiovisual equipment.
- Skill to make learning aids.
- Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective.
- Ability to impart information to the student's level of comprehension.
- Ability to apply, impartially and consistently, proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment.
- Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision.
- Ability to record and store data accurately.

Qualifications Profile:
Experience with children. High school diploma required; associates degree preferred.
