Job Description

Job Description This Teacher Assistant role supports the lead teacher in creating a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for children. They help with classroom activities, lesson planning, supervision, child development tracking, meal times, and maintaining a clean and organized classroom. The position also works closely with families through parent conferences, home visits, and community engagement activities.

Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.

Supervise and support children's learning, behavior, and safety.

Help document child development, screenings, and progress.

Assist with lesson planning, field trips, and outdoor activities.

Maintain classroom cleanliness, attendance records, and meal counts.

Support parent involvement through conferences, home visits, and events.

Ensure compliance with Head Start standards, licensing requirements, and agency policies.

Attend required trainings, workshops, and meetings.

Report any concerns related to child safety, abuse, or neglect.

Help maintain proper staff-to-child ratios and support active supervision practices.

Ideal CandidateEnjoys working with young children and families.

Organized and able to complete documentation accurately.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Reliable, professional, and positive attitude.

Comfortable participating in home visits, parent meetings, and training sessions.

Able to step into the classroom lead role when needed.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Skills and Requirements Position Qualifications:
 Minimum of Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and/or North Carolina Child Carecredentials Associates in Early Childhood Education preferred Minimum of 1 year of experience in direct services to children in a childcare setting Ability to understand and articulate oral and written instructions. Ability to work with a diverse population. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and homevisitsPreferred Proficient in conversational Spanish Experience in a Child Development, Head Start, or Early Head Startorganization  Infant/child first aid/CPR; Preschool First Aid/CPR We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day.
