Job Description

Newton Montessori is a growing, family-owned Montessori program in Edison, NJ. We're looking for warm, reliable Assistant Teachers to join our Preschool classrooms — no prior Montessori experience required. We'll train you, and there's a real path to grow from Assistant Teacher to Group Teacher to Head Teacher as you're ready. What you'll do:
  • Support the lead teacher with daily activities and a calm, organized environment
  • Assist children with handwashing, toileting, and self-care routines — including occasional accidents for children still finishing potty training
  • Help children through meals, rest time, outdoor play, and everyday transitions
  • Keep parents in the loop through our daily update app
  • Follow the health and safety guidelines that keep our classrooms licensed and safe What you bring:
  • 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Warmth, patience, and reliability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with the lead teacher, fellow assistants, and families
  • Comfort with hands-on physical care — toileting/handwashing assistance, lifting/carrying children up to 40 lbs, and sitting/kneeling on the floor throughout the day
  • Willingness to complete required training (CPR/First Aid, mandated reporter) and background clearances — we'll walk you through this
  • Interest in Montessori — experience is a plus, not a requirement Nice to have:
  • Experience with preschool-age children in a classroom setting
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree, CDA credential, or early childhood coursework — a plus, not required
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply Hours & pay:
