Sep 2, 2026 Job Description Our district is seeking a part-time Basic Skills Teacher Assistant for the 2026-27 school year. This position is for 5.95 hours per day at our Sewell School, which houses students in Preschool and Kindergarten.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB
Works in conjunction with the classroom teacher to provide students who are identified to have deficiencies in either of the basic skills areas with as individually-tailored program to improve their communications and/or computation skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Basic Skills Teacher Assistant shall: Hold a New Jersey Certification as an Elementary School Teacher (preferred but not required) Have excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the classroom teacher to plan and implement an instructional program commensurate to individuals needs in the areas of reading, language and/or math in a small group or large group setting. Identify students in need of remediation, including new registrants, in communications and/or computation skills using the district's established criteria. Administer pre-and post-diagnostic tests. Assist the classroom teacher or Basic Skills Teacher with the preparation of progress reports and year-end evaluations. Work closely with other teachers to help students maintain satisfactory progress.
