School Overview The Deron School of N.J., Inc., an approved private school for students with disabilities, is seeking upbeat, energetic para-professionals to join our team. With campuses in Union (ages 3-12) and Montclair (ages 12-21). The Deron School offers a positive work environment with opportunities for growth and advancements. We are currently looking for candidates in our Union Campus (ages 3-11). Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) - 1:1 Paraprofessional The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) serves as a 1:1 paraprofessional supporting a student with special needs in a private school setting. Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and in collaboration with classroom teachers and related service providers, the RBT implements individualized behavior intervention plans, instructional programs, and support strategies to promote student learning,independence, and safety throughout the school day. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct 1:1 support to an assigned student in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as needed.
  • Implement behavior analytic interventions as designed by the supervising BCBA, including datacollection and fidelity of implementation.
  • Support academic instruction by assisting the classroom teacher and student with classroom activities,transitions, and engagement in learning tasks.
  • Collect and record accurate data on behavior, skill acquisition, and progress toward goals.
  • Assist with de-escalation strategies and crisis intervention in accordance with school policies andapproved training (e.g., CPI, Handle With Care).
  • Promote positive behavior, independence, communication, and social skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrative staff to ensure consistency across settings.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and performance feedback as required for RBT certificationand the organization's professional development. This includes professional development and staff meetings that may extend past their hourly contract. Staff will be compensated for their time.
  • Support student safety, including supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions as needed.
  • Model appropriate interactions and support inclusive classroom participation.
  • Assist the teacher in tending to the needs of the students, including, but not limited to, feeding, hygiene, and self-care skills, including toileting and dressing;
  • Have and maintain good moral standing, integrity, reliability, and good judgment;
  • Serve as a role model for supporting staff and students in interpersonal interactions and in providing support in student-related activities;
  • Immediately inform teachers or other appropriate staff regarding unusual incidents or incidents that may threaten the health and safety of students or staff;
  • Assume an assigned one-to-one role in any classroom as needed;
  • Keep supplies in order, keep track of records, take and maintain valid and reliable data for students programming, and effectively implement all aspects of individual student programming needs (i.e. AAC device, visual schedule, communication book, reinforcement schedule, token board, sensory diet, etc.);
  • Develop and maintain professionalism and positive and cooperative relationships and interactions with and among all students and staff, family members and guardians, volunteers and community members including outside agencies, district representatives, and other state or local agents.
  • Upkeep and maintain all professional certifications, documentations and training. Qualifications
  • Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification required by the BACB.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children with autism or other developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of ABA principles, data collection, and behavior intervention strategies.
  • Ability to follow written behavior plans and instructional protocols with consistency and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
