To work closely with one or a few disabled pupils on a regular basis in an effort to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain as full benefits from the district's special education program as possible.Education/Training/Experience:
1. High school graduate minimum or GED 2. Excellent interpersonal skills 3. AA degree or Para Pro ExamKnowledge/Skills and Abilities:
- Prefer prior work with special education children
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred
- Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Regularly required to walk, talk, and listen. Frequently is required to stand and sit. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.Environmental Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists the student(s) to whom assigned in such physical tasks as moving from room to room and using the restroom. 2. Assists the student(s) to whom assigned with eating 3. Under supervision of the special education teacher works with the student(s) to whom assigned to complete any school work. 4. Accompanies the student(s) to whom assigned any time the student leaves the special education classroom. 5. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student (s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement. 6. Hears the student (s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping them but not teaching them. 7. Greets the student (s) daily upon the student's arrival to school and accompanies the student (s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement 8. Accompanies and assists student(s) in recreation and leisure activities and instruction (i.e...Swimming, bowling, field trips, etc). 9. Any other duties as assigned by the SupervisorEDUCATIONAL
1. Works with individual, small and large groups of students to reinforce learning and enhance skills, 2. Checks notebooks, correct papers, and assists with the administration of assignments and make-up work as assigned by the teacher. 3. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other positive forms of oral communication with students. 4. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. 5. Alerts the teacher to any concerns specific to the student(s). 6. Assists students in the library or media center. 7. Helps students with their clothing. 8. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. GENERAL 9. Serves as the chief source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher. 10. Operates instructional equipment used in the classroom. 11. Helps the teacher create bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays. 12. Collects and records the collection of money as assigned by the teacher. 13. Assist with snack, lunch and bathroom procedures. 14. Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned. Performs all duties assigned and deemed necessary by the teacher or principalSpecific Job Requirements:
1. Must possess and utilize excellent team-building skills. 2. Must accept delegated responsibilities willingly. 3. Just be able to work under occasional stress. To create an Elementary Grade Program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education in accordance with each pupil's ability to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students in a classroom utilizing the State competencies and curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. 1. Instruct students in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 1. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 1. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction. 1. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 1. Evaluate students' academic and social growth, and keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports. 1. Record student grades and other appropriate information into cumulative files. 1. Record student grades on grade sheets and report cards. 1. Communicate with parents, bi-weekly, monthly, or sooner if the need arises, through conference and other means to discuss the pupil's progress. (whether students are passing or failing), behavior, and interpretation of the school's program. 1. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 1. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. 1. Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. 1. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. 1. Instructs students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration; uses audiovisual aids and other materials supplement presentation. 3. Prepares teaching outline for course of study; assigns lessons and corrects homework papers. 4. Administers short cycle assessments to evaluate progress, records results and issues progress reports to inform parents of student's progress in the Tewa language. 5. Instructs students in Tewa and cultural aspects and customs of the tribe and Tribal Council and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 6. Adapts subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. 7. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil. 8. Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas using the Tewa language. 9. Evaluates each students progress in the area of study. 10. Develop lesson plans 11.
