In this vital role, you will work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and families to support students with diverse learning needs. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum or with developmental delays, while gaining valuable experience in special education settings. Responsibilities Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and tailored lesson plans that meet each student's unique needs. Provide direct support to students with disabilities, including physical assistance, behavioral management, and communication support using tools such as American Sign Language or other augmentative communication methods. Support students' social-emotional development by fostering positive behavior and implementing behavior management strategies aligned with best practices for students with behavioral disorders or autism spectrum disorders. Help facilitate literacy and math instruction, including basic math skills and literacy education, ensuring students stay engaged and motivated. Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors—to develop comprehensive support strategies for individual students. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information and adhere to all privacy regulations related to student records and progress reports. Assist in classroom organization, lesson planning, and curriculum development tailored for early childhood education or preschool-aged children in Montessori or similar programs. Skills Strong understanding of childhood development principles and early childhood education methodologies. Experience working with children with disabilities, including those with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders. Proficiency in classroom management techniques to foster a positive learning environment. Skilled in behavior management strategies suitable for students with behavioral challenges or special needs. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language; excellent writing skills for documentation purposes. Experience supporting students through curriculum support in special education settings; familiarity with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a plus. Capable of providing physical assistance when necessary while maintaining safety standards; experience working with students requiring additional childcare or toddler care is beneficial. Collaborative mindset to work seamlessly with teachers, specialists, families, and other staff members to ensure comprehensive student support.
