Job Description

The School of Applied Human Development invites applications for a qualified rank, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in Human Development and Family Science with a start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month non-renewable appointment. Bowling Green State University's Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) program offers a bachelor's degree and three (3) minors
  • child development, child life, and HDFS.
Using a holistic and trauma-informed approach, the program prepares students for community-based careers in social services, family resource services, or public policy. One of our strengths is embedding professional competencies throughout the major that culminates in an internship. One marker of our success is that 96% of our graduates are employed or pursuing an advanced degree within six (6) months of graduation. The School of Applied Human Development is a multidisciplinary school within the College of Education and Human Development that is dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. There are approximately 800 students in the undergraduate programs of Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Product Development, Human Development and Family Science, Interior Design, Sport Management, and Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management, and in the graduate programs of Athletic Training and Sport Administration and Kinesiology. The school is supported by approximately thirty-seven full-time faculty and staff. The College of Education and Human Development, BGSU's founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students.   • Teach undergraduate courses in the Human Development and Family Science program.
  • Contribute to the school, college, university, and profession through service and engagement activities. Specific Responsibilities
  • Undergraduate teaching of four (4) courses per semester. Major responsibility teaching in introductory level marriages and families, lifespan human development, parenting, and other family science courses. Courses are primarily face-to-face with some on line and evening sections.
  • Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and professional associations.
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Master's degree completed by August, 2026.
  • At least one degree in family science, human development, or related field.
  • Three years of professional experience in the field. Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Canvas course management system, university, and on line teaching.
  • Terminal degree (e.
g., Ph.D., Ed.

D.) in family science, human development, or a related field.
