A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.

Job Description

To increase collaborative interaction and learning within undergraduate courses with larger enrollments. Serve as learning coaches and support for teaching related tasks. Serve as leader of all other Learning Assistant/Instructor Aide's for that subject matter.
Career Readiness Competencies :
Communication Critical Thinking Teamwork Facilitate collaboration among small groups of students and/or inquiry-based, interactive learning. Help with designing and pre-testing in-class demonstrations or interactive activities. Provide help or review sessions with groups of students, during or outside of class. Assist with classroom management and supplementary activities. Serve as leader of all other Learning Assistant/Instructor Aide's for that subject matter. Agree to meet weekly with your assigned faculty member. Complete a one-hour tutor training session in the Learning Commons. Meet with other LAs four to five times throughout the semester for professional development. Prior completion of
BIOL 2050
with a grade of B or better. Understanding of course material. Good communication (speaking and writing) skills. Previously served as a learning assistant for the course.
