Job Description

The Goddard School in Independence is looking for warm, dependable and energetic Part-Time Assistant Teachers to join our team. This may be a great opportunity for someone who already has childcare experience or for someone with the right personality and work ethic who is willing to learn. We provide training and support to help the right candidate become comfortable and successful in the classroom. We have potential opportunities in classrooms serving children from infancy through preschool. Classroom placement will be based on your experience, strengths, age-group preferences, schedule availability and the needs of the school. Potential Classroom Placements Our Assistant Teachers may work with one or more of the following age groups:
Infants:
Approximately 6 weeks to 12 months
Older Infants/Young Toddlers:
Approximately 12 to 18 months
Young Toddlers:
Approximately 18 months to 2 years
Toddlers:
Approximately 2 to 2½ years
Older Toddlers/Early Preschool:
Approximately 2½ to young 3-year-olds who are learning to use the toilet and are not required to be fully potty trained
Preschool:
Mid to younger 3-year-olds who are newly potty trained
Older Preschool:
Older 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds You do not need to be interested in every age group. We want to learn which ages you enjoy most and where you would feel most comfortable and successful. What We Are Looking For Our ideal Part-Time Assistant Teacher is someone who: Genuinely enjoys being around children Is warm, patient and caring Has a friendly and positive personality Is dependable and arrives consistently and on time Is willing to learn and accept coaching Is comfortable being active throughout the shift Works well as part of a classroom team Communicates professionally with coworkers and families Can remain calm during busy or challenging moments Is willing to assist with caregiving, cleaning and classroom routines Understands the importance of consistent attendance in a licensed childcare setting Previous childcare experience is helpful, but it is not required for every candidate. We are willing to train someone who has the right attitude, maturity, dependability and genuine interest in working with young children.
Related experience may include:
Babysitting Nannying Camp counseling Coaching children's sports or activities Children's recreation programs Before- or after-school programs Paraprofessional work Sunday school or volunteer experience As an Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside Lead Teachers and other classroom team members to maintain a safe, caring and engaging environment.
Responsibilities may include:
Actively supervising children Engaging children in play and learning activities Assisting with classroom routines and transitions Helping prepare classroom activities and materials Supporting meals and snacks Assisting with diapers, changing clothes and toilet learning when applicable Comforting and caring for children Maintaining a clean, safe and organized classroom Cleaning and sanitizing classroom materials and surfaces Assisting with basic classroom documentation Communicating professionally with coworkers and families Following all school, licensing, health and safety requirements Completing required training and professional development Helping with end-of-day classroom routines Providing support in classrooms based on school needs This is not a position where employees sit and observe. Assistant Teachers are expected to participate actively, notice what children and teachers need and work cooperatively as part of the team. This is a part-time, year-round position. Our school is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Available schedules may vary based on current classroom needs. Afternoon availability is especially valuable because our school needs dependable teachers who can assist through the end of the day and, when scheduled, remain through closing. We try to be as flexible as possible when creating schedules. However, each schedule must make sense for the classroom and school.
Pay:
$15.00 - $16.50 per hour
