Job Summary We are seeking a Support Paraprofessional to join our dedicated team in Medina City Schools. This vital role involves providing student support during lunch, recess, and transitional movement during school day. Responsibilities Monitors students during lunch in cafeteria which involves walking among students, encouraging/reminding them to eat, assisting with opening milk cartons, yogurt tubes, enforcing established lunchroom rules, reminding them to throw away trash, asking them to help wipe down tables, etc. Performs basic cleaning tasks, i.e. wipe down tables, pick up trash, clean minor spills, to ensure clean cafeteria, notify custodial staff as needed. Supervises students during recess to ensure safe environment is maintained which requires walking around to monitor behavior, enforcing established rules, addressing student conflicts, etc. Acts as study hall monitor by creating seating charts, using computer to take attendance and report absent students, overseeing sign outs and hall passes, enforcing established study hall rules relating to noise level, collaborative work, cell phones, etc. Interacts in a positive manner with students and staff. Assists with testing as needed. Provides student supervision during safety drills. Responds to routine student questions and requests in a timely and appropriate manner. Communicates timely with principal regarding any issues or questions. Assists students with minor health issues, e.g. getting ice or applying a bandage. Maintains respect for and uses discretion with confidential information relating to students.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Acceptable results on
BCI & FBI
criminal background checks and complete enrollment in Rapback. Related experience preferred. Valid Educational Aide Permit or other licensure/certification required by the Ohio Department of Education. Alternatives to the above qualifications as superintendent and/or board of education deemappropriate. Competitive testing for in-house candidates; civil service testing for entry-level candidatesrequired.
