Job Description

Job Summary:
The primary function of a Paraeducator is to provide staff and students support in an educational environment. Paraeducators will provide guidance and instruction to students to assist with adaptive skills as well as working with students individually or in small groups by providing support in reading, writing, math, and other education related activities as assigned under the direction of the teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Escort, supervise, and assist students to various settings throughout the building including, but not limited to: cafeteria, recess, and general education/special classrooms including arrival and dismissal times. Assist students in restrooms (supervise washroom breaks, changing diapers, changing briefs, clothing, or personal hygiene) as needed. Facilitate appropriate social interactions amongst students by prompting, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate social behaviors in small group or classroom settings. Assist with the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs)/behavior plans/interventions,and provide reinforcement. Transfer, lift, or position students, as well as assist students in using wheelchair, stander, or other mobility devices, up to 40 lbs independently. Collect and record data related to student interactions, initiatives, and health needs. Support and act in accordance with all Huntingdon Area School District policies, the Public School Code of Pennsylvania, and other applicable federal and state laws. Demonstrate knowledge of students' educational needs, including but not limited to: instructional levels, medical, physical, sensory, speech/language, social/emotional, recreational, vocational, etc., as established by a multidisciplinary team and implement as directed by the supervising teacher Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to students and personnel Demonstrate effective organizational skills, time management, and flexibility in order to meet staff and students' needs. Function as program or classroom instructional assistant, a one-on-one (1:1) instructional assistant and/or personal care aide. Implement special systems/programs following training to assist students with specific diagnoses. Consult or meet with teachers or other professionals utilizing appropriate channels by engaging in positive solution finding steps to resolve areas of concern and request direction, instruction, or guidance for new or unfamiliar tasks. Provide accurate information about students to district team members, discuss confidential school issues only with appropriate personnel. Must complete at least 20 hours of staff developmental training annually; time will be provided by the district Help facilitate inclusion of students into general education settings. Assist and monitor students in using assistive technology devices Assist students with life-skills based curriculum in school or community. Help students implement and self-manage organization skills. Help facilitate inclusion of students into general education settings. Model appropriate behaviors and skills to students May be responsible for maintaining daily logs to submit for Medical Access billing May be required to support students on district transportation Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
Experience working in an educational setting preferred Must meet the criteria of two (2) years post secondary education or Associates Degree or Higher or Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA) or the Credential of Competency Series. Must have a basic understanding of technology platforms such as Google docs and email Must be able to effectively communicate through multiple channels of communication
Physical Demands:
Ability to reach above and below the waist Use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects Use both hands for repetitive motion Some bending and twisting of the body required Ability to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs. Must be able to walk/move/sometimes run throughout the work environment Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods of time Standing for limited periods of time Must be able to tolerate the rigorous/physical demands of students' behaviors and needs.

$14.08 - $18.31 per hour
