The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) provides leadership, resources, support, and guidance to approximately 200,000 school district staff serving approximately 1.5 million students in public and non-public schools and 39,000 students in special education transition services. In addition, MDE provides administrative support and supervision for the Michigan School for the Deaf and the Library of Michigan. Position Summary:

The Special Education Consultant supports the development of monitoring and technical assistance activities based on State Performance Plan Indicator targets and other priorities of the federal and state government. The Consultant facilitates the unit's use of technical assistance (TA) providers to support the correction of identified areas of noncompliance in local school districts. The consultant works with LEA and ISD personnel to ensure effective monitoring and technical assistance activities leading to compliant practices throughout the state.
