Job Description Johnston Public Schools is seeking reliable, flexible, and student-centered individuals to serve as Substitute Teacher Assistants for the 2026-2027 school year. Substitute Teacher Assistants provide essential classroom support in the absence of regularly assigned staff, helping maintain a positive, safe, and productive learning environment for all students. Key Responsibilities Support classroom teachers in delivering instructional activities and lesson plans
Assist with classroom management and student supervision
Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as directed
Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with special education plans
Help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
Assist with clerical tasks such as copying, organizing materials, and recordkeeping
Follow all district policies, procedures, and school protocols Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred
Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting strongly preferred
Ability to follow direction and adapt quickly to different classroom environments
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated patience, reliability, and professionalism
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Preferred Skills & Attributes Experience supporting students with special needs
Flexibility to work in various grade levels and school settings
Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
Basic technology proficiency Work Schedule On-call, as-needed basis during the school year
Typical school day hours; schedule varies by assignment Compensation
