Our Early Learning Center (ELC) serves children 6 weeks to five years in a bilingual, 4-star BrightStars-rated program. We use Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold to support children's growth and learning. Our classrooms encourage bilingualism (English/Spanish), family engagement, and team teaching. Job Summary The Teacher Assistant works closely with the Teacher to support children's learning, safety, and well-being. Responsibilities include daily classroom management, implementing curriculum activities, maintaining a healthy and safe environment, and fostering positive relationships with children and families. Teacher Assistants also help with developmental assessments, family communication, and compliance with state childcare regulations. Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Actively supervise children to ensure safety at all times Follow DHS licensing regulations and CDC cleaning protocols Perform daily health and safety checks; assist with meal service under CACFP guidelines Classroom Support Assist with lesson plans and provide materials that reflect children's interests and cultures Encourage exploration, creativity, and positive social interaction Help maintain consistent routines and classroom structure Create an environment that welcomes family participation Child Development Support implementation of Individual Learning Plans developed by the Teacher Help nurture each child's self-esteem, independence, and social-emotional growth Respond to children's needs with sensitivity and cultural awareness Documentation & Assessments Record daily attendance, meals, and health checks Support developmental screenings and classroom quality improvements (ITERS/ECERS) Family Engagement Build open, positive communication with families, including use of a parent app Assist families during classroom transitions Partner with families to support educational and wellness goals Teamwork & Professionalism Work collaboratively with staff and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers Report concerns to supervisors in a timely manner Participate in staff meetings, professional development (24 hrs/year), and family-teacher conferences Uphold FHH's mission, policies, and child protection standards Requirements At least 18 years old with a high school diploma At least one year of childcare center experience CDA, Associate's in Early Childhood, or RIDE Teacher Assistant certification a plus Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain Able to lift 25 lbs (and up to 40 lbs in emergencies), stand, bend, and move actively throughout the day Must pass fingerprint/background checks and provide required health records & vaccinations (including flu, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Covid-19) Skills & Qualities Love for children and teaching Positive, professional attitude Strong communication and teamwork skills Organization, problem-solving, and classroom management skills Ability to use technology (tablet/computer) for documentation Job Type Full-time and part-time positions available; hourly position.
