Job Description

Purpose:
The Day Program Aide provides direct support within the daily instructional program for adults with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities. This role helps ensure participants receive the individualized assistance they need while enabling instructional staff to focus on delivering PEP's wide range of programs that promote overall well-being and mental health. The Day Program Aide plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, supportive environment and works closely with instructional staff to assist participants with more intensive needs throughout the day.
Performance Responsibilities:
Collaborate with instructors to maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where participants can build skills and work toward personal goals. Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living, including feeding, toileting, and personal care. Support participants with emotional regulation and use approved strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviors. Assist with transitions between activities and promote positive behavior and coping skills. Provide close supervision, prompting, and redirection as needed. Assist with meal preparation, cleanup, and monitoring during lunch. Safely assist with lifting and transfers. Participate in team meetings with staff, case managers, and families as requested. Complete required trainings, including DDSN and in-house professional development. Obtain and maintain Medication Administration Certification to support medication needs as required.
Qualifications:
Experience providing direct care while upholding dignity, respect, and individual rights. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Ability to take direction while also responding proactively to participant needs. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport, maintain appropriate boundaries, and demonstrate empathy. Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations. Ability to anticipate challenges and implement preventative strategies. Ability to remain active and on your feet for extended periods. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strongly Preferred:
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification and/or experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
