Provide support to students by implementing positive behavioral support strategies in order to improve academic and behavioral outcomes.Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Provide full, willing and helpful cooperation in carrying out all reasonable instructions or extra assignments which are given by the Director of Support Services and/or Behavior Support team before, during and after the school day Provide instruction to the students in the areas assigned by the Director of Support Services. Record accurately the number of students present and absent each day in the manner prescribed by the Board, Director of Schools, and Principal Follow the Tennessee curriculum standards and local course of study, to follow rules and regulations of the state and policies of the local Board, and to follow administrative procedures at the school and system level Maintain positive relationships with the home, parent(s) and the community Keep parent(s) duly informed of the child's progress (through a variety of methods) and hold conference with parents and appropriate others as necessary Responsible for reporting any reasonable suspicions related to a child's health or welfare as a result of abuse or neglect to the appropriate state/community agency, as well as the principal Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics Participate in appropriate and required staff development sessions at the school and/or system level Work in cooperation with the behavior support department, school administrators, and alongside school teams. Collaborate with the special education department as needed or required for individual student needs. Demonstrate ability and willingness to work with students across school settings, including special education and general education classrooms Assist individual students and small groups in developing academic, social, and behavior skills through the implementation of positive reinforcement systems Help to build confidence, self-esteem, and emotional regulation in children through one-to-one and/or group interactions Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults in order to improve the student's overall behavioral functioning Support and monitor assigned students during academic and nonacademic activities (e.g., lunch, transitions, special area classes, recess, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment Consult with behavior support department through the behavior support process regarding service delivery and intervention implementation to at risk/qualifying students, as needed Implement support strategies or behavioral interventions with fidelity as outlined in behavior support plans Utilize calm down areas and sensory room as applicable to the student and strategies approved for implementation by the appropriate support team. Assist in the analysis and interpretation of results of data collection in order to evaluate student performance and progress, the effectiveness of interventions, strategies and support, and contribute to future plans Collaborate with the special education department to support behavior strategies and recommendations and attend IEP team meetings as requested for students assigned Submit required documentation to behavior support coordinator for record keeping, review, and feedback Attend all in-service and faculty meetings when directed to do so by the principal or Director of Schools Maintain student confidentiality at all times Plan, prepare, implement, assess instructional lessons that teach the standards and are appropriate for individual student needs Maintain proper classroom and school order that supports student learning Ensure that the use of the district's resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible Other Duties and Responsibilities Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen Appropriate Attendance Record Dress neatly and appropriately, according to system staff dress code Please note: this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Valid professional license with appropriate certification. Dual certification is preferred. Documented experience (3-5 years) in successful implementation of multi-tiered strategies for supporting the needs of students, families and/or staff Ability to deal with diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills and dedicated to development of the whole child, families, community partnerships, open communication, and collaboration Demonstrate skills in group dynamics, analyze issues, creatively problem solve, and create action plans All teachers shall be licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Tennessee Department of Education. Such license shall be on file in the Director of School's Office prior to beginning employment It is the responsibility of the employee to secure a certificate and to maintain its validity. When a teacher's contract must be terminated because the teachers' certificate has lapsed or otherwise becomes invalid, the Director of School shall immediately suspend the teacher without pay pending disposition of the matter. The teacher shall be notified of the reason for the suspension and given an opportunity for a hearing before the Board All teachers shall demonstrate competency based on the current job assignment and performance standards as outlined in the appropriate state model for local evaluation Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Support Services, Principal or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable Abilities/Physical Requirements Physical demand requirements may include lifting of students, positioning of students, assisting students with activities.
